Biofabri is a biopharmaceutical company created in 2008 with the aim of researching, developing, and manufacturing vaccines for humans. Biofabri has extensive technical and scientific capacity in vaccines and immunotherapy. Biofabri belongs to the Zendal group, a Spanish biopharmaceutical business group made up of companies specializing in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of vaccines and other biotechnological products for human and animal health.

Role in MTBVAC AVANTE
Biofabri serves as the project coordinator and industrial developer of MTBVAC, leading the consortium’s overall strategy and activities related to clinical development, regulatory affairs, access and manufacturing. Biofabri is also the sponsor of the ongoing Phase 3 MTBVACN3 clinical trial in newborns.

IAVI is a global nonprofit biomedical research organization with locations in the U.S., Europe, Africa, and India that develops vaccines and antibodies for HIV, TB, emerging infectious diseases, and neglected diseases, with the goal of providing global access. It has contributed to efforts to evaluate most of the leading TB vaccine candidates now in clinical development and has a highly experienced TB vaccine clinical research team in South Africa.

Role in MTBVAC AVANTE
IAVI is participating through its regional hubs in Kenya, South Africa, and the Netherlands. IAVI is responsible for scientific stewardship as well as coordination of regulatory, access, and communications activities. IAVI is also the sponsor of the ongoing IMAGINE Phase 2b clinical trial in adolescents and adults.

The South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (SATVI), based at the University of Cape Town Faculty of Health Sciences, is a globally recognized leader in TB vaccine research and clinical development. Over the past two decades, SATVI has evaluated 10 novel TB vaccine candidates through 28 Phase 1–3 clinical trials, contributing to some of the most significant efforts in the field. Its research programme is focused on understanding the determinants of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, protective immunity, and progression to disease, in order to accelerate the development of effective vaccines and prevention strategies with global impact on the TB epidemic.

The University of Cape Town Lung Institute Centre for Lung Infection and Immunity (CLII) seeks to enhance the prevention, diagnosis, and effective management of pulmonary infections including TB. CLII’s mission, through our academic and clinical activities, is to reduce mortality, and improve the health-related quality of life of people with lung infections associated with poverty (TB, HIV and pneumonia).

Wits VIDA Research Unit conducts cutting-edge research on infectious diseases and vaccines in Africa and low-income countries, influencing global policies. We focus on disease surveillance, clinical trials, child health, and mortality prevention. The unit houses a world-class laboratory and a research clinic at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The University of Zaragoza (UniZar), Spain, is the main center for technological innovation in the Aragón region of Spain. It participates in different exchange programs, collaborating with universities and research centers in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Microbiologists from the university associated with Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Enfermedades Respiratorias led the research and subsequent discovery of the experimental vaccine MTBVAC.

Role in MTBVAC AVANTE
